| Block | Weeks | Starts | Window | Intent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Work-Crunch 2X Active | 9–20 | 2026-06-10 | Mid-June – late Aug | Continue toward the ~14% area / trim midsection while preserving muscle. Gentle, trend-set deficit. Includes the travel deload (~Wk 11, at maintenance). |
| Overlanding Upcoming | ~20–24 | 2026-08-26 | Late Aug – late Sept | Maintenance. Preserve muscle on dumbbell-only training; recover from the deficit arc. |
| Phase 3 Future | TBD | 2026-09-23 | From late Sept | Defined on return, on clean post-trip data. The real cut-vs-bulk decision is deferred to here. |
Two training blocks treated as one macrocycle because they share a single driver: the 2X push exists because the trip is coming. The crunch protects the program through a demanding work period; the trip is the fixed event both are organized around. The deficit continues into the crunch at a gentle rate, then hard-stops at Week 20 when travel begins.
~2,480 kcal daily target, protein running ~195–200g (floor 165g), with one full 36-hour fast per week (Mon ~9pm → Wed ~9am) carrying the majority of the weekly deficit while eating days ran near maintenance.
Four lifting sessions per week on an A/B split — 8–10 reps on primary compounds, 14–15 rep double-progression on isolation — loads held or creeping up through the deficit, confirming muscle was kept.
Hold current macros. Protein floor stays 165g (non-negotiable), running ~195–200g. Rate set by trend, not formula: dropping 4x→2x training lowers maintenance, softening the deficit to ~0.5 lb/week on its own. Adjust up only if loss runs hotter or muscle signals slip.
Two full-body sessions: 2X Workout A (hinge-led, Thu) and 2X Workout B (squat-led, Sun). Reduced volume is a maintenance stimulus. In a deficit, intensity is the retention lever — heavy near-failure compound work is the muscle insurance. Volume drops; intensity does not.
NEAT-based, no structured fasted sessions. Incidental activity carries the load. Reduced structured cardio lowers recovery cost and interference at exactly the point where muscle preservation is the priority.
A ~6-week trip in the Hawk camper, framed as a forced stabilizer-focused double-progression block — a feature, not a compromise. Deficit hard-stops at Week 20; the trip floats to maintenance. Dumbbell-only (90 lb/hand ceiling). Protein floor (165g) is the one non-negotiable anchor; carbs and fat float. No fasting during the trip. A dedicated 6-week travel program may be needed — to be designed.
Fat is lost in a fixed order: in men, abdominal/visceral fat is the most stubborn depot — defended hardest, lost last. There is no spot reduction. Getting the last abdominal fat off means lowering total body fat further, which pulls more from the already-leaner areas and raises lean-mass risk. Muscle is the governor: push leaner only as long as strength and performance hold. The day the muscle signals dip, the cut is done — even if the midsection isn't fully where you pictured it.
Judged by trim / waist tape / mirror, not the device readout. The Withings body-fat % is a soft proxy (±2–3 points), and the technical "14%" may need to be overshot on the scale to reach the real-world result. The goal is trim, not the cultural ideal.
| Signal | Role |
|---|---|
| Main-lift strength + session performance | Primary. Fastest, most reliable read on whether muscle is being held. |
| Withings muscle% trend | Confirmer. Slower-moving; corroborates the strength signal over weeks. |
| Waist tape + recovery markers | Supporting. Sleep, mood and hunger flag adaptive suppression and recovery debt. |
Abort the deficit if strength slides or muscle% trends down — regardless of where the body-fat number sits. Because muscle-loss risk per unit of deficit rises as you get leaner, the triggers tighten as the block progresses.
Phase 3 is defined on return at the end of September, from where the body actually lands — not predicted now. The genuine cut-vs-bulk decision is deferred to that point, taken on clean data once travel water weight settles and glycogen refills on the normal schedule. The options span a further short trim, a maintenance hold, or the transition to the clean bulk the Phase 1 Summary originally sketched. Phase 3 documentation waits for that read.
